During the Advent season and over the Christmas holidays, it is peak shopping time. The stores in the city make it an experience to remember with Night Shopping, Sunday Shopping and New Year Shopping events.

Shopping in the City is the strong umbrella brand, which include the city’s Night Shopping, Sunday Shopping and New Year Shopping events. These events are very popular and see a great turnout of merry customers with considerable purchasing power. The festive shopping season begins every year on the Thursday four weeks before Christmas. Night Shopping begins at 6 p.m. when the Christmas lights in the city are turned on and fill Zurich’s entire city centre with their festive cheer.
Every winter during the Advent season, the City Association turns the city of Zurich into an attractive holiday shopping destination.

The Night Shopping event marks the start of the season. Many stores are open longer, live music is featured on various stages throughout the city and, at numerous outdoor stands, the tens of thousands of people visiting the city this evening can warm up with a cup of mulled wine or enjoy a delicious snack.
Sunday Shopping takes place on three Sundays during the Advent season: many stores are open and people take the opportunity to wander through the city finding the perfect Christmas gifts for their loved ones.
New Year Shopping rings in the new year. January 2 is Berchtold’s Day. On this national holiday, many businesses open their doors to customers out enjoying the day.
